Students select Homecoming royalty

The color and pageantry that is Homecoming continued this week with the naming of the 2013 Homecoming King and Queen. This year’s royal couple are Kristina Willis and John Fatkin.

Willis, a senior from Pittsburg, is the daughter of Larry and Rhonda Willis. A former basketball star for the Gorillas, Willis is also a member of ROTC, which sponsored her as a queen candidate.

Fatkin, a senior from Wichita, is the son of Thomas and Bethany Fatkin. He is a history major and a former member of the PSU Spirit Squad. Fatkin is also a member of ROTC, which sponsored him as a king candidate.

First runners up were Kiki Eigenmann, of Carthage, Mo., and Nick Popejoy, of Arma, Kan. Second runners up were Katie George, of Prescott, Kan., and Connor Callahan, of Prairie Village, Kan.

This year officials expect more than 20 past Homecoming queens and kings to be part of the annual celebration. Past royalty will ride in Saturday’s Homecoming Parade at 9 a.m. in downtown Pittsburg and will be honored at the football game, which begins at 2 p.m.

The complete Homecoming schedule may be found here.
