Solo & Chamber Series presents Chestnut Brass Co.

The Grammy Award-winning Chestnut Brass Company is the second offering in Pittsburg State University’s 2013-14 Solo and Chamber Music Series. The ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, in the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall in PSU’s McCray Hall.

The Chestnut Brass Company has earned international acclaim for performances on modern and historical brass instruments. As curators of the sounds of ancient and antique brass instruments, the group performs on modern brass instruments as well as on rare instruments such as cornetti, sacbuts, keyed bugles and saxhorns.

The ensemble, which began as a street band in 1977, has been featured on National Public Radio's “All Things Considered,” “Fresh Air,” “Radiotimes” and “Performance Today,” as well as the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, Bavarian State Radio, Korean National Television and numerous radio and television stations across the U.S. They have performed in North and South America, Europe, the Caribbean and Asia.

The Chestnut Brass Company records on the Sony, Newport Classic, Crystan and Musical Heritage/Musicmasters labels. Selections from their recordings have been featured on several documentaries ranging from “A House Divided” for PBS, to “Pinehurst, the History of Golf.”
