PSU remains among top family friendly schools

For the second year in a row, the Pittsburg State University Kelce College of Business is among the most family-friendly schools in the nation.

The Princeton Review recently published its list of the top 10 family-friendly business schools, and Pitt State again ranks No. 5 in the U.S., ahead of Penn State, College of William and Mary, the University of Notre Dame, Duke and Cornell. Brigham Young remained in the top spot on the list, followed by Dartmouth College, Indiana University, and the University of North Carolina.

Paul Grimes, dean of the Kelce College of Business, said being ranked in the top 10 for the second consecutive year is a testament to the college’s “consistent devotion” to its students.

“We take tremendous pride in being among the most family-friendly schools in the nation,” Grimes said. “You look at that list, and we’re in very good company. To see Pittsburg State University competing strongly with institutions like BYU, Notre Dame and Duke is a testament to the ongoing commitment to family at this university and its business college.”

For the Family Friendly category, the Review examined student answers to survey questions concerning how happy married students are, how many students have children, how helpful the school is to students with children, and how much the school does for spouses of students.

The Review quoted students who said the “atmosphere is very conducive to learning and interacting with people” and that ““the faculty does a great job pushing students to excel and make contributions to the school and community.” Students also wrote, according to the Review, that “there is an incredible sense of student spirit and pride” on the Pitt State campus and a “strong diversity of cultures” within the business school.

Along with being among the most family-friendly schools, the Kelce College of Business was also named by the Review as one of the top 295 business colleges in the nation.  The Review tallied its lists based on its surveys of 20,300 students attending the 295 business schools and 18,500 students attending the 169 law schools profiled in the books.

Michael Muoghalu, director of the MBA program at Pitt State, said the university’s family-friendly atmosphere is one of the most appealing factors for students across the country and around the world.

“Students from all around the world choose to attend Pittsburg State University, and one of the main reasons for that is the friendly atmosphere here,” he said. “Students from thousands of miles away who have never heard of Pittsburg State before quickly feel right at home once they arrive. We’re very proud of that.”
