Fall Career Fair draws record number of employers

Employers of all kinds crammed into every available space in the Overman Student Center on Oct. 24 and that had Mindy Cloninger, director of the Office of Career Services beaming.

“We had 89 exhibitors here today and that’s a record for the Fall Career Fair,” Cloninger said. “Every employer I talked to had positions they were trying to fill.”

“There have been times in the past when some employers came just to keep their names in front of students,” Cloninger said. “They wanted to be ready when the economy improved and they needed to hire again.”

But at this year’s event, the employers were definitely looking for employees.

“Employers tell us that they like PSU students because they are not only well educated and prepared to go to work, but they also have a strong Midwestern work ethic,” Cloninger said.

The Fall Career Fair serves multiple purposes, Cloninger said. In addition to matching students who are about to graduate and who are looking for jobs with employers needing to hire, it also helps connect students with companies that have internship opportunities. It is also a good way for students to learn about the job opportunities available.
