PSU kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month observance

Pittsburg State University will open its observance of Hispanic Heritage Month with a presentation by Stan Pearson II, the S.A.L.S.A. guy, on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Pearson will present “Am I Too Sexy?” at 7 p.m. in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center.

Stan Pearson Publicity ShotPearson, named speaker of the year by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA), is a Salsa dancing, Spanish speaking presenter who uses comedy to connect with his audience. He is an author and life coach who created “Am I Too Sexy?” as a brand to help people see a better side of themselves and to continue to express to people that they are better than they think they are at all times.

Pearson said he had a difficult time feeling accepted in high school and college and that experience has influenced his current work.

“Acceptance has so much to do with how we handle events in our life,” Pearson said. “We deal with accepting ourselves, seeking out acceptance and being able to accept others. It becomes a full circle of existence and subconscious programming that we are responsible for controlling and creating a positive manifestation of being.”

Pearson has taken his message about being proud of who you are as a person regardless of race, color, or the languages you speak to college campuses and military bases across the U.S.
