KTC hosts largest ever Company Day

A record number of companies visited the Kansas Technology Center on Sept. 18 for the College of Technology's annual Company Day, one of the premier industry-student networking events of the year.

More than 145 companies, representing a variety of technology-related fields, were on hand Wednesday to meet and converse with students about future career opportunities.

"It's very exciting to see so many companies here at Company Day, because that shows that companies are hiring and they are looking at Pittsburg State students to fill open positions," said. Dr. Bruce Dallman, dean of the College of Technology. "We have a strong reputation for fully preparing our students for the workforce, and events like this show just how much interest there is in the industry for our students."

Leah Flynn, a senior in plastics engineering technology, said she's attended Company Day every year since she was a freshman.

"Now, as a senior, it's time to really get serious to make those connections that will benefit me after college," she said. "Company Day is a huge benefit for us students, because it gives those opportunities faces and names and puts them all in front of us in one day."

For the industry professionals, Company Day is a unique opportunity to showcase their businesses and meet prospective employees.

"It's always great to come here and meet so many students who will soon be looking to start their careers," said Michael Strenth, a PSU alum and project manager at Hensel Phelps. "We make a lot of a valuable connections on this day, and it's definitely a win-win for everyone involved."

Company Day began initially as a showcase for construction companies. It soon expanded to include engineering technology, automotive and diesel/heavy equipment, graphics and imaging technologies, electrical technology and wood technology.
