Casey named "Woman to Watch" in accounting field

A Pittsburg State University faculty member has been named to the “Women to Watch” list by the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Becky CaseyBecky Casey, chair of the accounting and computer information systems department at PSU’s Kelce College of Business, is one of two recipients of the “Women to Watch” award in the Experienced Leader category. The other is Karen Linn, managing director of Berberich Trahan and Co. in Topeka.

The “Women to Watch” awards are given out by the Kansas Society of CPAs in conjunction with the American Institute of CPAs.

The Experienced Leader award goes those KSCPA /AICPA members who are in a higher level or leadership position within her organization, such as partner, owner, member, executive, elected official or appointee. Casey, who joined the Pitt State faculty in 2002 after 20 years’ experience in the accounting industry, said she was pleasantly surprised by the recognition.

"It was a wonderful surprise to receive the nomination, and I am thrilled to have been selected by the previous recipients for the 2013 KSCPA/AICPA Women to Watch award,” Casey said. “Thirty-five years ago, I fell in love with the field of accounting, and the passion still burns. It is truly an honor to be recognized by my peers as a leader in this field."

Dr. Paul Grimes, dean of the Kelce College of Business, said Casey “possesses all of the characteristics that exemplify the Women to Watch Award criteria.”

“Throughout her career, Becky has distinguished herself as an outstanding accountant in both industry and academia,” Grimes said. “Her passion for the accounting profession is evident to all of those who work with her.”

There is also an Emerging Leader category of the “Women to Watch” award for those members who are “not yet in their highest level of advancement” but make contributions to the profession and her community. This year’s recipients in that category are Chris Kibler, assistant general manager and director of finance at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, and Julie Wondra, manager at Adams Brown Beran & Ball, Chtd., in McPherson.
