MCA chapter earns excellence grant

They did it again.

For the third year in a row, the Pittsburg State University chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association has received the Chapter of Excellence Grant.

The $7,500 grant recognizes student chapters for extraordinary performance and accomplishment during the previous academic year. Pitt State’s chapter is one of just 10 chapters nationwide to receive the grant this year.

“We are very thrilled to receive this grant,” said Shannon Nicklaus, Pitt State chapter adviser. “The students worked very hard throughout the year, and this grant is a testament to the work they put in.”

Nicklaus said $5,000 of the grant funds will go to scholarships, while the remaining $2,500 will go toward organization operations.

The PSU MCA chapter regularly helps with Hearts & Hammers, Block Kids, Fort Scott Community College Construction Rodeo and other community events.

“It couldn’t be done without the School of Construction fostering an excellent environment for those students to be able to participate and lead these clubs,” Nicklaus said.

Founded in 2008, the aim of the MCA Student Chapter at PSU is to get more students more aware of the opportunities within the mechanical contracting industry.

The Pitt State student chapter of the MCA is a sister chapter of the MCA-Kansas City, a 55-contractor network in the Kansas City area and joins approximately 40 student chapters nationwide.
