Students go One Day Without Shoes

Chilly temperatures on Tuesday forced many Pittsburg State students to break out their coats and gloves.

Some, however, kept their shoes in the closet.

Members of the PSU TOMS student group went shoeless on April 16 as part of the One Day Without Shoes campaign sponsored by the TOMS shoe company.

The campaign is aimed at bringing awareness to the millions of children around the world who are without shoes to wear every day. TOMS is one of the leading advocates for children without shoes. For every pair of shoes sold, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need.

Kelsey Admire, president of the PSU TOMS group, said the group wants to help bring awareness to this important issue.

“It was cold and our feet got a little bit dirty,” she said, “but by doing so, we helped raise awareness of the impact a simple pair of shoes can bring to a child’s life.”

Admire said she hopes the campaign will make PSU students “realize how lucky they are to have shoes to wear every day.”

“Some students will go barefoot for an hour, some for the whole day,” she said, “but all become a part of a greater movement toward change. Their involvement will captivate and educate this community and this school, and impact the lives of children around the world.”
