PSU students dedicate a day for community service

The BIG Event is living up to its name. Sponsored by the Pittsburg State University Student Government Association, the BIG Event is a communitywide service day that will take place on Saturday, April 5.

BIG Event Director Elle Walker said more than 900 students are expected to participate in this year’s service day, which will begin with registration from 9-10 a.m. at the Weede PE Building.

After some instructions and prizes, students will fan out across the city to do a wide variety of jobs from raking and yard work to painting and simple home repairs. Walker said that this year the students are partnering with Hearts and Hammers on some of their project sites.

Although PSU students do a wide variety of community service thought the year, Walker said, the BIG Event is a day set aside to give back to the community that supports the university and its students.
