PSU Jazz Ensembles perform free concert

The Pittsburg State University Jazz Ensembles will wrap up the spring semester with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, in Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium.

The program for the concert will feature music from the libraries of Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, Count Basie, The U.S. Army Blues and others. In addition to classics like Hoagy Carmichael's “Skylark” or the great “Bugle Call Rag,” the ensembles will play contemporary works like “Gospel Truth” and “Zog's Jog.”

Russell Jones will be featured on alto sax on the Jimmy Dorsey classic, “I’m Glad There Is You.” Jazz Ensemble I will feature Chris Goddard (trombone) and David Keshavarz (baritone sax) on “Superbone Meets the Badman.”

Jazz Ensemble I is under the direction of Bob Kehle. Jazz Ensemble II is under the direction of Todd Hastings.
