Recital features German songs, arias

Stella Hastings, soprano, will sing an all-German program of art songs and arias for a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall on the Pittsburg State University campus. The free concert will be followed by a reception in the McCray Hall lobby.

Stella Hastings mug shotHastings will collaborate with pianist Barbara York; Raul Munguia, violinist and conductor of the SEK Symphony; Denissa Rivas de Munguia, flute; and members of the symphony for the performance.

Hastings, an associate professor in the PSU Department of Music, said the program will feature works by Bach, Schumann and Beethoven.

In addition to her work at PSU, Hastings maintains an active professional career as a conductor and vocalist on local and national levels. She also performs regularly as a member of the Grammy-nominated choral ensemble, Conspirare, under the direction of Craig Hella Johnson.

Mrs. Hastings holds degrees from the University of Kentucky and the University of Texas at Austin. Her studies have also included work at the Aspen Music Festival and various master class performances.
