Comic uses humor to discuss serious mental health topics

Some people might question making jokes about mental health, but for Paul Jones, it is something he does almost every day.

Jones, diPaul Jones mugagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003, uses humor to address the stigma around mental health and to educate young people about bipolar disorder and its effect on the individual and his or her family and friends.

Jones will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom at Pittsburg State University. His presentation, “It’s All About Mental Health A humorous look at a serious topic,” is free and open to the public.

Since his diagnosis, Jones has appeared at colleges and high schools across the country, where he uses humor to address a serious topic. He has also been busy writing. His books include "Dear World - A Suicide Letter" and "The Up and Down Life: The Truth about Bipolar Disorder - The Good, the Bad, and the Funny."

PSU’s Office of Student Prevention and Wellness and Gorillas In Your Midst, a peer health education group, are sponsoring the event.
