PSU plans Family Art Morning

Youngsters ages 5-12 will tour and learn about the current art exhibits in the Pittsburg State University galleries and do an art project of their own at Family Art Morning on Saturday, Feb. 23, in PSU’s Porter Hall.

The event, which is free open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m. and include tours of current exhibits with interpretive art guides. Following the tours and discussions, students will create their own take-home art project. Family Art Day concludes at noon.

Art projects participants will create are based on the theme “Places We Live” and are expected to help students learn about their community and themselves through the process of creating art. The projects are designed to be relevant to students from kindergarten through seventh grade, but others are welcome to join in.

Family Art Day programs are designed by a team of art education students and members of the University Art Association.

Students 5-8 should be accompanied by an adult. Parking is available on Cleveland Ave., north and west of Porter Hall. For more information, contact Sunghee Choi, assistant professor of art, at 620-235-4310 (schoi@pittstate.edu) or Mercedes Brink, president of the University Art Association (mbrink@gus.pittstate.edu).
