Solo and Chamber second half begins

The Pittsburg State University Solo and Chamber Music Series opens its second half on Friday, Jan. 25, with a performance by soprano Sarah Wolfson. She will be accompanied by pianist Renate Rohlfing at 7:30 p.m. in McCray Hall.

Sara WolfonWolfson’s recent concert/oratorio appearances with orchestra have covered a broad range of repertoire, from Schubert’s Mass in E-flat and the Brahms Requiem to the Folk Songs of Luciano Berio. An avid performer of new music, she created the role of Celia in the world premiere of John Musto’s “Volpone,” commissioned and presented by the Wolf Trap Opera Company. She has sung with various other opera companies and music festivals, including The Santa Fe Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, Brevard Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and La Jolla Summerfest, among others.

Wolfson is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she received the William Schuman Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in music, the highest award given to a graduate student. She is a member of Sing for Hope, a non-profit organization founded by opera singers that links artists and charities.

Tickets for the performance are $12 for general admission and $18 for persons over 65 or under 18. PSU students with valid ID are admitted at no charge. Tickets are available at the PSU Ticket Office in the Weede PE Building, 620-235-4796, or online at www.pittstate.edu/tickets.
