About Christina Webster

Flutist Christina Webster maintains an active and varied career as orchestral musician, recital soloist, chamber player, and teacher, and has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. She earned her D.M.A. in Flute Performance at the Conservatory of Music and Dance of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Winner of a Fulbright Award, she earned a Postgraduate Performance Diploma with Merit at the Royal Academy of Music (London). Ms. Webster earned a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, and a Bachelor of Music in Flute and Piano Performance, summa cum laude, from the University of Kansas. Ms. Webster holds the permanent position of Second Flute with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and she performs as Principal Flute and frequent soloist with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, and as Principal Flute of the Kansas City-based newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. She is also an active substitute/extra flute for the Kansas City Symphony. Ms. Webster has performed twice as soloist with the UMKC Conservatory Orchestra as winner of the Conservatory’s 1999 and 2005 Concerto/Aria Competitions. Recent solo performances include the complete Bach Brandenburg Concertos at the Folly Theatre (Kansas City, MO), presented by the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra as part of the Friends of Chamber Music’s 2012 Bach Festival, Bach's Suite in B Minor for Flute and Strings, Vivaldi's Flute Concerto in D Major, Il Gardellino, Samuel Barber's Capricorn Concerto for Flute, Oboe, Trumpet and Strings, and most recently, Arthur Foote's A Night Piece for Flute and Strings, all with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra.

Ms. Webster has performed as Principal Flute of the Manson Ensemble, the Royal Academy’s contemporary music ensemble, giving performances at the Oxford Festival of Contemporary Music, the Duke’s Hall of the Royal Academy of Music, and alongside the London Sinfonettia at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (South Bank Centre, London). She has also performed at the Purcell Room in London, the US Embassy in London, and in various venues throughout the UK, Germany and Italy. As a flute and piano duo, Ms. Webster and pianist Ya-Ting Liou were semifinalists in the 2007 “Gaetano Zinetti” International Chamber Music Competition, and they were awarded first prize at the International Collaborative Piano Competition of the 2006 William Garrison Piano Festival and Competition. Ms. Webster was the instrumental winner of the 2000 Naftzger Young Artist Competition (Wichita, KS), and has been a prizewinner at the Kansas City Musical Club Scholarship Competition, the SAI Scholarship Competition, the Texas Music Festival Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition, and the MTNA National Young Artist Competition.

Ms. Webster has taught at King’s College, London (on behalf of the Royal Academy of Music) and at Kansas State University as Visiting Assistant Professor of Flute. She is currently Lecturer in Flute at Pittsburg State University. Principal teachers include William Bennett, John Boulton, Kate Hill, and Mary Posses.
