Jumpstart English Program

What Does This Do?

Want to improve your English language skills?

Want to gain confidence in your English abilities?

Jumpstart English is a course designed for adult English learners in the community who have had little formal English study. Topics are presented in the context of everyday situations and include self, school, family, home, jobs, and community. This is a non-credit, recreational English course.

Course Information

Jumpstart English (for community members) 8-Week Courses

Classes Offered:

  • Writing & Grammar
  • Reading, Listening, Speaking

What will I be Learning?

The goal of the course is for participants to become comfortable speaking, reading, and writing about their lives using basic English grammar and phrases. The grammar covered in the course includes tenses (simple present, present continuous, simple past, and future) for statements and questions, as well as count and noncount nouns, comparative adjectives, and basic preposition usage.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of participation.

When is the Course?

The 8-week courses will be held 2 hours per day Monday to Friday (times may vary). Classes will be held on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

How Much is it?

The program fee is $500 per class per session and must be paid before the start of class. Students will also need to purchase their own textbooks and supplies. Payment can be made in the form of cash or check and can be paid at120 Whitesitt Hall where the Intensive English Program is officed.
