Featured artist announced for 52nd Annual Pitt State Jazz Festival

When The Lao Tizer Band takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. on March 6 as part of the 52nd Annual Pittsburg State University Jazz Festival, the audience can expect an electrifying mix of jazz, funk, soul, and world influences. 

The concert will be held at Memorial Auditorium, opening with a performance by the Pitt State Jazz Band directed by Professor Todd Hastings. 

A pre-concert guest appearance by the student band The Little Green Men, whose members also are in the Pitt State Jazz Band, will begin at 6:45 p.m. 

A limited number of tickets for floor seating are on sale at the Pitt State Ticket Office. Balcony seating is reserved for members of the more than 70 area high school jazz bands that will be performing for judges throughout the day.

When they take the stage in Pittsburg, expect an electrifying mix of jazz, funk, soul, and world influences, led by keyboardist and bandleader Lao Tizer, a former “Best New Jazz Artist” nominee.

About the festival  

The festival started in its current form in 1974 with just 14 bands and has grown to be one of the largest and most celebrated educational jazz festivals in the Midwest.    

School jazz band performances will take place at McCray Hall, the Overman Student Center, and Memorial Auditorium from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are open to the public at no charge.
