Jazz Ensemble concert planned for Oct. 16

The Pittsburg State University Jazz Ensemble will perform its first concert of the season at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, featuring nine arrangements of some fun and funky music for the whole family to enjoy.

The nine arrangements will bring different styles of jazz music, from big band standards to contemporary jazz songs.

“I'm super excited for the audience to hear the fruits of the students’ labor when listening to these compositions. They have worked very hard and have risen to the level that this mature program requires,” said Professor Todd Hastings, director.

One of the songs, “Fever,” arranged by John Davenport and Roger Holmes, will feature two vocalists, Jocelyn Goodwin and Jude Wolfe.

Other tunes on the set list include Acronym Blues by Doug Beach; Come Fly with Me by Van Heusen/Byers; Queen Bee by Sammy Nestico; Groovin’ Hard by Don Menza; Brazilian Affair by Bob Mintzer; All of Me by Simons/Jones; I Ain’t Gonna Ask No More by Toshiko Akiyoshi; and Two Seconds to Midnight by Alan Baylock.

Admission is free for all who wish to come out and hear some fun and lively music.

Can’t make it live? The concert will be recorded and may be viewed later on the Bicknell Center You Tube Channel at @BicknellCenter.
