10th season promises something for everyone at the Bicknell Center 

The national tour of a hit Broadway show, a popular ‘90s band, events especially for students, and several locally produced concerts and plays are on tap at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts as part of this season's programming. 

The Bicknell Center turns 10 during the 2024-25 season! It opened at Pittsburg State University with a ribbon cutting on Dec. 7, 2014, and was celebrated with a gala event grand opening held in March 2015.  

Addams Family

"The Addams Family” 

Ticket sales for the national tour of the Broadway musical “The Addams Family” will begin on Sept. 9. 

The show will stop in Pittsburg for one night only, Feb. 22, 2025, and embraces the wackiness in every family!

‘90s Concert 

BAM

Go back in time with Generation Rewind by Bill & Monica's Excellent Adventure – an alternative concert experience with a ‘90s theme -- on Sept. 7. 

Seating and a dance area will be on stage with the band – and it’s free!  

Wear your best ‘90s outfit for a chance at prizes for the Best Dressed Individual or the Best Dressed Couple.  

Finger foods, non-alcoholic, and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. 

Students only 

hypnotist

Professional hypnotist and comedian Chris Jones will take the stage on Aug. 28 with his popular traveling show that engages audience members. He’s well known for his appearance on America’s Got Talent and has performed on The Steve Harvey Show, Penn and Teller, and other nationally televised shows. 

On Oct. 23, professional entertainment artist and magician Andrew Silver will perform his popular show “Summoning Spirits," a blend of magic and mystery designed for collegiate venues that engages audience members and leaves them spellbound.  

Both events are for Pitt State students only.

"A Little Night Music” 

The Pitt State Theatre and the Music Department will collaborate to produce “A Little Night Music,” a Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim. 

Planned for Oct. 25-27, it will be directed by Linden Little with music direction by Patrick Howle and will explore the nature of desire and regret. 

It is open to the public but is meant for mature audiences. 

Showtimes: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  

Tickets: pittstate.edu/tickets or in person at the PSU Ticket Office, 107 Weede, M-F 8:30 to 4 p.m., or at the door starting an hour before each show, based on availability. Free for PSU ID holders. 

Concerts 

Numerous concerts are planned by the Music Department throughout the year and will feature the PSU Wind Ensemble, the PSU Jazz Ensemble and Combo, the University Choirs, the Southeast Kansas Symphony, and the Symphonic Band. 

Fall concerts include a children’s concert for area schools in September; the kick-off to the Hispanic Music Festival on Sept. 15; the PSU Wind Ensemble on Sept. 29; the PSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo on Oct. 16 and Nov. 20; University Choirs on Nov. 1; and the SEK Symphony on Dec. 5. 

Spring concerts include the PSU Opera on Feb. 7 and 9; the PSU Wind Ensemble on Feb. 16 and April 29; the PSU Symphonic Band on March 13; the PSU Percussion Ensemble on March 25; the SEK Symphony on March 30; the PSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo on April 23; PSU Choral Ensembles on May 2; the SEK Symphony on May 4; and the Four State Honor Band on May 8.  

All concerts are open to the public and are free except for the symphony.

Trumpet Festival 

The 14th Annual Midwest Trumpet Festival will draw in professional musicians, trumpet teachers, students, and enthusiasts from across the region on Oct. 6-7. 

The festival is directed by Professor Todd Hastings.

Dance Showcases 

Students in the PSU Dance Minor are rehearsing for a fall performance on Nov. 12 and a spring showcase in April.  

Both will be free and open to the public and will be held in the Linda and Lee Scott Performance Hall under the direction of Elizabeth Smith.

International Showcase 

The Linda and Lee Scott Performance Hall will come alive with the culture and color of more than a dozen countries during the annual International Student Showcase on March 8. 

International students will present individual and group performances beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by desserts and interactive booths in the lobby. 

Tickets will be available for purchase in advance through the International Programs & Services office and at the door.

Pitt State Theatre 

Pitt State Theatre will produce two plays in the Dotty and Bill Miller Theater, both for mature audiences. 

The comedy “Exit, Pursued by a Bear” is planned for Feb. 27-March 2 and will be directed by Professor Emeritus Cynthia Allan. 

The dark comedy “Love/Sick” by John Cariani is planned for April 24-27 and will be directed by Megan Westhoff.  

The shows will be ticketed for the public and free to PSU ID holders.

Other 

Throughout the year, the Bicknell Center plays host to numerous non-performing arts events for the campus and community, including the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction planned for Oct. 4 and the 2nd Annual KEYS Summit planned for Oct. 10.
