Music Department plans “Sounds of Summer” concert series

The Music Department at Pittsburg State University will once again hold a summer concert series, but this year’s will be spread across four weeks in June instead of an all-in-one-week festival.

“Sounds of Summer” performances will start at 6 p.m. on Thursdays at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts and will be free to the public. They include: 

June 6 
Chamber Music Potpourri 

This concert will feature solo and chamber music in a variety of styles and have something for everyone! Performers will include talented students and faculty as well as local musicians. 

June 13 
The Pittsburg Community Band and Summer Youth Band 

This concert will feature attendees of the PSU Summer Band Camp and members of the Pittsburg Community Band in a celebration of wind music, from classic marches to brand new compositions. 

June 20 
Voice Recital 

This concert will feature an evening of solo vocal music in the intimate Miller Theater. 

June 27 
Paraguayan Chamber Music 

This concert will feature Jopará Ensemble, which performs music from Paraguay blended with harmonies and rhythms from around the world. The word “jopará” is the colloquial language used in Paraguay, a blend of Spanish and Guarani. This idea of blend, or Jopará, is what the ensemble portrays through their music, combining traditional with more contemporary elements to create a unique sound.
