University plans for GoPitt!Fest in April

For the first time, multiple events will be combined into a week-long focus on Pitt State, with a couple of new things added to the mix, as well. Called GoPitt!Fest, it is planned for the first week in April and will include activities involving students, faculty and staff, alumni, donors, and the community.

“Our goal was to combine resources and activities to create a week-long celebration that connects our students, constituents, and community. We have a lot to celebrate!” said Becky McDaniel, associate vice president for University Advancement and chair of the planning committee.

April 1: Students will thank donors throughout the week by tagging objects and items around campus that were purchased with contributions in an annual project called T.A.G. (Thank a Gorilla). A scavenger hunt for students will be held across campus and the community.

April 2: The Office of Development will hold Gorilla Giving Day, the annual 24-hour online fundraising campaign that supports the student experience. A Gorilla Giving Day After Hours event for the community will be held at Brick + Mortar at Block22.

April 3: The Apple Day Committee will host festivities for students, faculty, staff, and community on the lawn of Russ Hall recognizing the legislative action in 1903 that provided funding for Russ Hall and the university’s permanent location.

April 4: The H. Lee Scott Speaker Series will provide an opportunity for campus and community to hear a presentation by noted actor, author, producer, and philanthropist Rainn Wilson at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. Tickets will go on sale in late February. Learn more.

April 5: Alumni in town for awards ceremonies will visit their academic departments to connect with students. A public reception will be held at the Alumni Center to celebrate recipients of the Meritorious Achievement Award, the university’s highest alumni honor, and the Dr. Ralf J. Thomas Distinguished Service Award.

April 6: Students under the direction of the Student Government Association will fan out to homes across the community to volunteer at lawn and clean-up chores as part of The Big Event. A GoPitt! party will be held in the parking lot of the Bicknell Center featuring Stone Country and Bill & Monica’s Excellent Adventure. Student musical groups will compete in advance for the chance to perform.

April 7: The annual Student Leadership Awards will be held in the Overman Student Center, followed by the Order of Omega Awards at the Bicknell Center.
