University authors to be honored at 40th annual reception

Library Services at Pittsburg State University will host the 40th annual University Authors Reception from 3 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 9 on the first floor of Leonard H. Axe Library. It is open to the public.

Physical displays of works will be available through November and available online in Digital Commons at digitalcommons.pittstate.edu/far/

The reception serves to highlight the accomplishments of Pitt State employees who publish or develop creative works each year, and to recognize their devotion to research, scholarship, and creativity, noted Dean of Library Services Randy Roberts.

Book authors and editors being recognized will include:

  • • Allison Blevins, adjunct lecturer in History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences: “Cataloguing Pain” and “Fiery poppies bruising their own throats”
  •
  • • Steve Cox, retired university archivist: “John T. Wilder: union general, southern industrialist”
  •
  • • Tim Dell, professor of Automotive Technology: “Heavy Equipment Power Trains and Systems,” 2nd Edition
  •
  • • Mark Johnson, professor in Workforce Development: “Train the Trainer: Training Techniques Workbook”
  •
  • • Jessica Jorgenson Borchert, associate professor in English & Modern Languages: “Academic Mothers Building Online Communities: It Takes a Village”
  •
  • • Laura Lee Washburn, professor in English & Modern Languages: “The Book of Stolen Images”

The reception, an opportunity for colleagues and friends to celebrate, is a come-and-go event with remarks planned for 3:15 p.m. by Roberts. Light snacks and drinks will be served.

Starting Nov. 6, physical samples of all the published works and books by all university authors will be on display on the first floor of Axe Library.

A virtual Discussions with Authors will be available online after the reception.

“Library Services congratulates the Pittsburg State University faculty and staff members who produced scholarly and creative works during the past year,” Roberts said. “We hope that anyone unable to join us can participate through the digital and virtual content.”
