Students in Kelce College of Business bring home national wins

Three students in the Kelce College of Business are national champions for their winning entry in the Integrated Marketing Campaign category of the Future Business Leaders of America competition this summer.

The team was comprised of Amanda Becker, Sarah Clausen, and Wyntr Jacobs.

Their project’s focus was to increase student involvement in on-campus organizations by analyzing factors that influenced participation, then designing an advertising campaign to motivate and inspire participation. They created posters, postcards, brochures, and social media materials, then presented them to a panel of judges.

All three students have competed and placed at nationals several times in categories like Accounting Analysis and Decision Making, Accounting for Professionals, Business Presentation, Business Communications, Social Media Marketing, Website Design, Desktop Publishing, and Small Business Management. Their courses helped prepare them, they said.

After graduating in May, Becker will return to Pitt State this fall to begin her MBA. Clausen and Jacobs will be studying abroad in France then plan to complete their MBAs.

They, along with five other students, also racked up wins in other events at the national competition, held in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • • Business Ethics: Hannah Evans, 2nd place
  • • Entrepreneurship Concepts: Matthew Schmidt, 3rd place
  • • Business Presentation: Sarah Clausen and Wyntr Jacobs, 4th place
  • • Finance Case Competition: Matthew Schmidt and Jamie Manning, 7th place
  • • Accounting Case Competition: Amanda Becker and Hannah Evans, 7th place
  • • FBLA Businessperson of the Year: Lisa Paterni, Pitsco

“These trips are something that I have always looked forward to. You get to travel to different cities with friends that you meet through FBLA who are also competing in events,” Jacobs said. “The friendships I have made through FBLA have been a huge factor in my success throughout my collegiate career.”

The students say the support they have received has been impactful.

“We have many supporters within the Kelce College of Business and it's very encouraging that the teachers and faculty support us and are proud of the accomplishments within our club," Jacobs said.
