Before enrolling at Pitt State, Simpson, of Cherokee, graduated from LCC with his associate’s degree in graphic design technology.
LCC announced his award during an unveiling ceremony last week and plans to use the logo for various celebrations throughout its centennial year.
“I wanted to respect the previous generations of Cardinal logos while also allowing it to stand apart with modern touches,” Simpson said. “I believed this momentous occasion required the cardinal to literally ‘break free,’ spread its wings, and take flight.”
He spent about an hour each day for two weeks creating and tweaking his design — the first logo he made for something other than a class assignment.
Simpson is also gaining hands-on practical experience as a designer and print production manager in Pitt State’s Printing and Design Services Shop, and works as a barista at Root Coffeehouse & Creperie.
He’ll graduate in May 2024 and hopes to work in a company in which he can use a range of creative abilities and continue to learn and grow.
