For nearly 40 years, Mountain Stage has stood as one of the most beloved and enduring programs in public radio history, broadcasting thousands of raw, unforgettable performances by rising stars and veteran legends from a humble studio in Charleston, West Virginia. It can be heard on nearly 300 public radio stations nationwide.

Pittsburg’s program, which will be recorded for broadcast, will begin at 7 p.m. and will include Grammy-winning host Kathy Mattea, with special performances by Jesse Milnes and Emily Miller, John Fullbright, Matt the Electrician, and Willi Carlisle.

Nov. 12 | Kansas Army National Guard 35th Infantry Division

Smith, John Philip Sousa in a tribute to America’s heroes. U.S. military veterans will be recognized and honored for their service.

Nov. 28 | The Broadway tour of Fiddler on the Roof

The curtain will go up at 7 p.m. on this national tour of the critically acclaimed and Tony Award-nominated Broadway revival. Featuring a notable cast and crew and a lavish orchestra, it tells the heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and timeless traditions that define faith and family.

The original Broadway production, which opened in 1964, was the first musical in history to surpass 3,000 performances. The show won the 1965 Tony Award for Best Musical in addition to eight other Tony Awards that year.

March 5 | U.S. Navy Concert Band

The United States Navy Concert Band, direct from Washington, D.C., will perform at 7 p.m. This will be a free event, but the Bicknell Center will issue tickets due to demand.

April 17 | Glenn Miller Orchestra

Launched in 1936, The Glenn Miller Orchestra had a string of hit records, popular radio broadcasts, and live performances at hotels, theaters, and pavilions, in the years leading up to World War II.

Today, the group still wows audiences from coast to coast, playing many of the original Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the Air Force Band libraries as well as modern selections performed in the Miller style and sound. It still is the most sought-after big band in the world.

Tickets

Tickets to all productions and performances can be purchased at the PSU Ticket Office, Room 137 in the Garfield Weede Building, 1701 S. Homer, online at pittstate.edu/office/ticket-office, or by calling 620-235-4796.

Other performances

Many more events also are planned throughout the year in partnership with university ensembles, regional performers, and a series in partnership with Olive Street Presents. Details about those performances will be released throughout the academic year. First up in the Olive Street Presents Series:

Sept. 30 | Trout Fishing in America

What began in 1979 as a streetcorner gamble to get noticed and signed by a major record label turned into a Grammy-nominated success story for Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet — known collectively as Trout Fishing in America.

Now with their own label and 25 albums to their credit — including “Safe House,” which dropped in April — the touring singer songwriters will perform in Pittsburg at 7 p.m., thanks to an ongoing partnership with Olive Street Presents, a local house concert non-profit owned by Rob Poole and Carol Puckett.

Trout Fishing draws inspiration from childhoods spent listening to top-40 AM radio and season their music with stylings from rock and roll, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, funk, Latin, and reggae.

Tickets for this show and others in the Olive Street Presents series are not eligible for the 15 percent discount, and tickets will be sold online at olivestreetpresents.org — not through the PSU Ticket Office.
