2-9-22 University reports 30 positives at health center over two-week period

Due to last week’s three-day closure for inclement weather, Pittsburg State University is reporting two weeks of COVID-19 case data this week. Between Jan. 26 and Feb. 8, the Bryant Student Health Center tested 69 symptomatic students for COVID-19. Of those, 30 were positive. Currently, three students are in isolation.

In the same period, seven faculty or staff members reported an infection.

The health center also administered three COVID-19 vaccines in the same period.

Given the rapidly declining number of positive cases in Crawford County and on campus, the university rescinded its indoor mask mandate on Feb. 8.

Bryant Student Health Center Director of Operations Rita Girth noted that the only tested/positive numbers the university can reliably report are those from the health center. Isolation numbers can differ between reporting agencies due to students being tested elsewhere and then later reporting as PSU students via the Crawford County Health Department.

Quarantine numbers are managed solely by the Crawford County Health Department. Numbers change daily.
