Pittsburg State employee picked as one of 12 Women of Distinction

Stacey Bacon, a clinic nurse practitioner at the Bryant Student Health Center at Pittsburg State, was chosen as one of 12 honorees for the 2022 Women of Distinction Community Calendar — a project of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

A native of McCune, Kansas, Bacon also is a two-time graduate of Pittsburg State (BSN ‘04, MSN ‘08) and is nearing completion of her doctorate of nurse practice (with an additional psychiatric mental health emphasis) from Washburn University.

She’s been a board-certified family nurse practitioner for 13 years, and has worked at the health center since 2011.

“Protecting the health of our students has always been a top priority for Pittsburg State University, but that effort has never been more important or more challenging than over the past two years,” she said. “It’s a challenge my colleagues and I take very seriously.”

Bacon is a member of both Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society of nursing, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She’s also active in the community through volunteer work with the SEK Humane Society, coaching Upward Basketball, and activities at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.

Each year, the Women of Distinction Community Calendar honors 12 area women who lead by example in donating their time and talents to benefit the Pittsburg area. This year, the chamber received almost 40 nominations.

Photos of each honoree were taken by Pittsburg State photographer Sam Clausen. The photos and short stories about each honoree appear in a free calendar that can be picked up at the chamber office, 117 W. Fourth St., during business hours.
