Andrew Bishop has been chosen to deliver the 26thAnnual Victor J. Emmett Memorial Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m., in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center at Pittsburg State University, with a reception to follow in the Heritage Lounge. It is free and open to the public.

The Emmett Memorial Award and Lecture are sponsored by the Emmett family, the PSU English Department, and The Midwest Quarterly, in honor of a longtime professor of English at PSU.  

Bishop is a doctoral student in the English Department at Ohio State University where he studies British and American modernist literature. Prior to pursuing his PhD, he coordinated the Composition II program at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he taught courses in literature and composition. 

Bishop has taught English language classes to middle and high-school students in Spain and the Dominican Republic. His lecture is titled, “Insensibility of ‘Vicious Sympathy?’ What to Feel About Animal Pain According to The Island of Dr. Moreau.
