Sometimes, one plus one adds up to more than two. That was the case for Jason Landrum, BS 2010, who matched a technology degree in graphics with a business degree in marketing and then landed a job he clearly loves.
Since 2010, Landrum has been working for Vanguard Packaging in Kansas City, Mo. As a marketing associate and graphic designer, he helps plan, design and produce packaging, banners and displays for a wide range of products.
“We do point-of-purchase displays and signage and I work with the marketing director and sales people to provide sales tools, presentations, and mock-up displays for prospective customers,” Landrum said.
Landrum said that what he finds especially exciting about his job is the way it allows him to use both the consumer strategy he learned in his marketing classes and the artistic and technical skills he learned in his commercial graphics classes.
“The interdisciplinary education prepared me for the multiple environments I work in,” Landrum said. “I can work equally well with people in art production or with a customer who wants an effective display.”
Landrum said his work with Vanguard has reaffirmed his decision to major in both business and technology.
“It wasn’t until I actually got to work that I realized what a perfect fit it was for both of my majors!” Landrum said.
