The 2012 Summer Olympics will arrive a little early for the students in Joplin’s East Middle School. Technology Education students from Pittsburg State University will bring the London Olympic games to East Middle School on Thursday, April 26, complete with a working Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Thames River.
Mike Neden, a member of the faculty in the Department of Technology and Engineering Education at PSU, said that while the students are visiting London, they’ll also learn important scientific and mathematical concepts.
Neden said the PSU students have been working for months preparing not only the lessons, but also structures that include a Tower Bridge with a draw bridge, the iconic London Eye, and even hovercraft that will shuttle the students across the Thames River.
And just like the real Olympic games, Neden said, his students have also planned a concurrent wheelchair event for the Para Olympics.
