Four Pittsburg State University students took eight of the top awards at the SkillsUSA Kansas Championships held last week in Wichita.

Greg Finke, a senior automotive technology major from Cypress, Texas, took first in Job Interview, second in Auto Parts Management and third in Automotive Written Exam. Lance Stoltzfus, a senior in automotive technology from Meade, Kan., took first in Automotive Written Exam. Chandler Williams, a sophomore in automotive service technology from Pittsburg, took first in Automotive Service Technology. And William Kincade, a senior automotive technology major from Pittsburg, took second in Automotive Written Exam and third in both Job Interview and Auto Parts Management.

“Four of our students won eight medals. That’s impressive,” said Ron Downing, a member of the PSU automotive technology faculty and a long-time SkillsUSA member and coach. “But its not just about winning a medal. I always ask students, ‘What did you accomplish? What did you learn on the journey to get this award?’”

That journey will continue for some of the award winners when the national SkillsUSA competition is held in Kansas City in June.
