A memorial fund has been set up through the Pittsburg State University Foundation to help a local family who lost two children in a house fire earlier this week.
The Shadden Memorial Fund was established Thursday to assist the family of Ronnie and Liz Shadden, both employees of Sodexo, the food services company contracted by PSU. Ronnie Shadden, the children's father, works at Gibson Dining Hall, and Liz, their stepmother, is employed at Gorilla Crossing. They live in Arma.
The Shadden's four children were asleep at their mother and stepfather's home in Nevada (Mo.) when the fire broke out. Kadessa Shadden, 13, was able to rescue her brother Braxton Shadden, 9. Their younger sisters, Amanda Shadden, 11, and Coleen Shadden, 5, died in the fire.
The PSU Shadden Memorial Fund will help with funeral expenses for the children. Donations are also being accepted at Metz Bank and Ferry Funeral Home, both in Nevada. Funeral services have been set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington.
For more information on donating to the fund, contact the Office of University Development at 620-235-4768 or Todd Wixson, manager of Sodexo Campus Services, at 620-235-4997 or at email@example.com. Contributions can also be sent to the PSU Shadden Memorial Fund at 401 E. Ford, Pittsburg, Kan., 66762.
