Pitt State students will try to convince some of their fellow Gorillas that this is the year to quit, during the Great American Smokeout, Nov. 16-17. The peer health education group Gorillas in Your Midst, along with the Student Government Association and the PSU Office of Prevention and Wellness will sponsor several information activities on those two days.
The theme for this year's smokeout is "Clearing The Smoke About Tobacco Use."
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, the students will an information and resource table in the Overman Student Center lounge. Students who stop by the table can play "Tobacco Jeopardy" for prizes, pick up a free Quit Kit, and get more information about the dangers of smoking and tobacco use and advice about quitting. The table will be staffed from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
On Thursday, Nov. 17, the students will give away hot dogs and Quit Kits on the Oval from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
On both days, the students will offer information to their peers about the tobacco-free campus initiative, as well as information on how to "quit the spit" and how to help a friend quit smoking.
Contributors include: Ron's IGA, Sodexo, Starbuck's, Walmart, Dillon's Supermarket, Pallucca and Sons, Marrone's, Via Christi Health, and the Crawford County Health Department.
