Jazz Festival concert: hottest ticket in town

February 11, 2011 12:00AM

It could be the hottest ticket in town, and its free. Bob Kehle, Music, thinks tickets will go fast for the Jazz Ambassadors of the U.S. Army Field Band, who will be the featured entertainer for the 37th annual PSU Jazz Festival on Friday, March 4. The band will play at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium.

One of the finest big bands in the world, the Jazz Ambassadors tours thousands of miles each year to promote patriotism and build good will for the U.S. Army. Since its formation in 1969, the Ambassadors have appeared in all 50 states and throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. The Jazz Ambassadors presents a diverse program of big band swing, Latin music, contemporary jazz, popular tunes, standards, Dixieland, and patriotic selections.

The Jazz Ambassadors will join the PSU Jazz Ensemble 1 on the concert stage that evening. The PSU ensemble will also perform a noon concert at Memorial Auditorium for groups of Jazz Festival participants who are unable to stay for the evening concert.

Festival Director Kehle suggests anyone interested in attending the evening concert get their free tickets early.

"We expect a great turnout of students for the festival and for this concert," Kehle said. "I expect the available tickets will go quickly."

Tickets are available at the Ticket Office, and from the festival sponsors, Memorial Auditorium and the Morning Sun.
