Senior students from high schools in Kansas and Missouri learned about careers in nursing and the PSU Department of Nursing on Thursday, when the department hosted Nursing Career Day. Area high school students and others from as far away as Kansas City and Winfield attended the event.

Students rotated among six stations where PSU nursing students led instruction on things such as vital signs, IV insertions, injections, wound care, and sterile gowning and gloving. In the department’s high-tech simulation lab, students witnessed realistic depictions of medical emergencies.

Organizers say events like Nursing Career Day are both an opportunity to recruit good students and also a way to educate high school students about various aspects of nursing careers.
