September 20, 2013Event: Pecha-kucha nights originated in Amsterdam when young architect Klien Dytham created the concept of a free flow exchange of ideas in a public setting. Since that first PKN event more than 360 cities around the globe have been hosting these fun filled evenings around the world. Tel Aviv just hosted one in which 6,000 people attended. Toykyo Japan has more than 80 night clubs that host these events.
Simply put, it is all about telling a story. You put together a set of 20 slides (pictures, photos, models, etc without bullet points or hyperlinks). Then you tell your story as these slides progress every 20 seconds. Thus you have 6 minutes and 40 seconds to tell your story. There is no stalling on a slide, or waiting for something to load, the slides continue to move forward every 20 seconds.
Pittsburg State became a licensed site for PKNs January 2011. The event on Sept. 20 at 7:20 pm in the Kansas Technology Center will be our 5th event held in Pittsburg. We will have approximately 10-15 presenters, including faculty, students, staff, and community members telling a wide range of stories, from their trips abroad, to research projects, to hobbies and interests. We will present half of these stories, enjoy some refreshments, then hear the rest of the stories. We welcome all of you to come and take part in this historic event and perhaps consider sharing your story at another event this year.
Come check out what thousands around the world are seeing and enjoying first hand. See PowerPoint presentations done in a way you may never have experienced, and perhaps pick up some ideas for the future.
Pecha-kucha is pronounced pa-cho-ku-cha or Peh-cha ku-chaEvent is open to the public
