The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards fifty-one Fellowships of $5,000 each and six at $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each active Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards.

Pittsburg State’s Phi Kappa Phi Chapter will be accepting fellowship applications to select a local candidate until March 31, 2014. In order to be considered, all application materials must be received in the PSU President’s Office (207 Russ Hall) by 4:30 p.m. on March 31, 2014.
Pittsburg State University Phi Kappa Phi Announces 2013 Initiates and Award Winners
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to announce the 116 initiates into the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter at Pittsburg State University, Chapter 213. Their Initiation Ceremony was held at Pittsburg State University in the Jack H. Overman Student Center on April 14, 2013. Local chapter president, Randy Winzer, presided over the ceremony. The program included opening remarks from Dr. Steve Scott, President of Pittsburg State University and guest speaker Dr. Diane Smathers, President, Phi Kappa Phi National Board of Directors. Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 213 is proud to announce their Chapter 213 Award winner for 2013-2014, Cassandra Norris and the Chapter’s nominee Andrea Petersen for a 2013 Fellowship Award
Cassandra Norris will graduate from PSU in December with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Starting in Fall 2013, she will be pursuing a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting at PSU. During her undergraduate studies at PSU, Cassie served as Vice President of Activities for Beta Alpha Psi. She has also been a member of Omicron Delta, Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, The National Society of Leadership and Success and a Kelce Scholar in the Kelce College of Business. She is the daughter of Mike and Rhonda Norris from Owasso, OK.
Each spring, every local chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is asked to forward one single nominee to the National headquarters to compete for one of dozens of Fellowship Awards.
This year, Pittsburg State University, Chapter #213 selected Andrea Petersen as our fellowship nominee. Andrea will be graduating in May with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She was recently accepted into The University of Kansas School of Medicine in the Early Decision Program. After graduating from KU, she plans to pursue a career as a geriatric physician. As an undergraduate student, Andrea had been an active member in the PSU Honors College, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa honors society, the Pre-med club, and the Biology club. She also participated in two separate medical missions trips to Belize and Peru to provide medical service to underprivileged villages. Aside from school, she has spent many hours working as a CNA in an Alzheimer unit and an at-home health aide caring for the disabled and elderly.
