The Golden Gorilla Award is a student honor given on Apple Day to recognize those junior and senior students who have made exemplary contributions in community service, academic excellence and campus involvement.
Evaluations of the applicants will give attention to the following:
A strong applicant would possess strengths in all of these areas; however it is not necessary for all three areas to be fulfilled to receive the award. For example a student working part or full-time to finance their education may not have the time to perform community service, but would still be encouraged to apply.
A PSU faculty or staff member may nominate a student by sending Eva Sager, Associate Director for Campus Activities, an email with a 1-2 sentence description of why the student should be nominated. Eva will notify nominees by email and encourage them to apply. Nominations are due no later than Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 4:30 pm.
Students may also complete an application without a nomination.
Students will submit the application with a resume. Please see Application to the left for full details. Applications are due by 12:00 pm (noon) on Friday, February 17, 2017.
The Selection Committee will base their decision upon the quality of responses and accomplishments in the three recognition areas as presented in the documentation submitted.
Golden Gorilla recipients will be announced at Apple Day on Tuesday, March 7 at the 3:00 p.m. Convocation ceremony in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom located in the upper level of the Overman Student Center.
If you have any further questions, please contact Eva Sager in the Campus Activities Center at firstname.lastname@example.org or (620) 235-4795.
