The Pittsburg State University Social Work Club, in cooperation with the Safehouse Crisis Center and other campus groups, will host the 2011 Take Back the Night from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 29. The event is designed to raise awareness of sexual violence and to support survivors in their healing process.
Activities begin at 4 p.m. with a free self-defense class in Room 212 of the Student Recreation Center. At 5 p.m., victims advocate Brooke Powell will speak in the Inaugural Room of the Overman Student Center. She will be available at the conclusion of her address to speak with persons individually who wish to do so. At 6 p.m., organizers have planned a Take Back the Night march on the Oval, which will be followed at 6 p.m. by musical guests Head Change, also on the Oval.
