Professor leads national statistics honor society

Ananda Jayawardhana, a professor in the Pittsburg State University Department of Mathematics, has been elected president of the Mu Sigma Rho, the National Statistics Honorary Society, for the 2017-2019 term. He served as the vice-president for the organization from 2014 until 2016.

Ananda Jayawardhana, a professor in the Pittsburg State University Department of Mathematics, has been elected president of the Mu Sigma Rho, the National Statistics Honorary Society, for the 2017-2019 term. He served as the vice-president for the organization from 2014 until 2016.

Jayawardhana worked with 34 students from several universities in Kansas and the University of Central Missouri to establish the Kansas-Western Missouri Chapter of the American Statistical Association in 2012.

Founded in 1968, Mu Sigma Rho has grown to 30 chapters across the U.S. Mu Sigma Rho honors achievements of students and faculty within its chapters. Members are selected based on their academic achievement in the field of statistics. Mu Sigma Rho promotes scholarly activities and invites statisticians to colloquia and lectures. Some chapters organize field trips and internships through business partnerships. Members also participate in social service activities with other campus societies
