Christian contemporary musician Jennifer Knapp will bring her American “Inside Out Faith” tour to Pittsburg State University on Monday, Oct. 22. Her free performance begins at 6 p.m. in the U-Club of the Overman Student Center.
Knapp, a Chanute, Kan., native and PSU alumnus, is a Grammy-nominated artist who has gained national and international attention by unashamedly claiming her faith and her sexual orientation. She has been interviewed by a host of media, including CNN, USA Today, The Advocate & Christianity Today, and was a featured guest on “Larry King Live.”
Knapp’s “Inside Out Faith” tour is an effort to continue to create a positive and constructive dialogue on behalf of LGBT people of faith. On her website, Knapp writes that she knows from personal experience the challenges of being out in certain faith communities. But, it is through sharing her journey through music and conversation that she has discovered “the healing that comes from breaking the silence.”
Knapp won Dove Awards in 1999 for New Artist of the Year and Rock Song of the Year for her song “Undo Me,” which was on her debut album, “Kansas.” “Lay It Down,” released in 2000, earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2001. Her album “The Way I Am” (2001), was also nominated for a Grammy.
