Position Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will be expected to: 1) teach undergraduate and/or graduate plastics industry and polymer’s related courses (lecture, laboratory, and on-line), 2) work with the faculty of the Chemistry Department to develop and implement interdisciplinary BS and MS polymer chemistry programs, 3) establish externally funded applied research programs and support industry engagement in the area of polymer chemistry (polymer processing) independently and/or in conjunction with PSU’s KPRC, 4) advise and recruit students and mentor student professional organizations, 5) support Department, College and University activities. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with industry and conduct research to apply “real-world” solutions to industrial challenges.
Minimum Requirements: Have a Doctorate in a field related to plastics engineering technology, chemical engineering, materials engineering, or chemistry. Have research experience, or industrial experience, and technologically current knowledge that support the field of instruction and research (minimum 3 years required). Have a working experience with polymer chemistry/engineering applications, including thermoplastic and thermoset resin formulating, compounding, testing, etc. Have experience and be proficient in plastics manufacturing processes, design practices and supporting software. Demonstrate competence and experience in teaching lecture and lab courses in a broad plastics industry related curriculum. Demonstrate competence in student mentoring and advising. Identify, have experience in, and be able to support or lead activities in an emerging plastics technology area that is compatible with the Plastics Engineering Technology Program and the Kansas Polymer Research Center, nano-composites, bio/green polymers and composites, self-assembly, etc. Have program assessment experience, including program review/ABET accreditation. Have a record of successful work on a team, professional development, and involvement in professional societies, SPE, SAMPE, SPI, etc. The overall qualification of candidates will be evaluated by the following: education, industry experience, teaching experience, ability to communicate, experience in grant writing and securing external research funding, enthusiasm for developing new and maintaining effective programs/curricula, ability to establish a complementary, collaborative research program with the KPRC.
