SSG Preston Hummel was born in Pittsburg, Kansas in March of 1981.  After attending one year at Pittsburg State University he joined the military in 2002.  SSG Hummel graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Sill, OK to become a 13B Cannon Crewmember, he was assigned to 2-3 FA located in Giessen Germany.  SSG Hummel deployed to Iraqi in 2003-2004 and again in 2006-2007 with 1-5 FA from Fort Riley, KS.  In 2008 SSG Hummel joined the Kansas Army National Guard where he has served as a squad leader for the 226th Eng Co. SSG Hummel has received several awards throughout his career which include a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal-4, Army Achievement-1, Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Overseas Service medal.  In 2011 SSG Hummel was also named the 891st Engineer Battalion NCO of the Year.
