Master Sergeant Michael Deatherage was born in Sweet Springs, Mo in January of 1980. He joined the military in June of 1999. Upon enlisting MSG Deatherage attended and graduated from basic training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, OK. MSG Deatherage has three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. His positions include Senior Military Instructor, First Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Senior Field Artillery Targeting NCO, Gunnery Sergeant, Drill Sergeant, Howitzer Section Chief, Gunner, and Cannon Crewmember. He has been stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Riley, Kansas, and Pittsburg State University, Kansas. MSG Deatherage has multiple awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal-3, ARCOM for Valor, ARCOM-3 , and AAM-8. He has also earned the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, the Drivers Badge, and the Expert Field Artillery Badge. He is a distinguished member of the Order of Saint Barbara, and a Lifetime member of the Society of the Big Red One.
