Department of Mathematics and Physics

The Department of Mathematics and Physics offers courses leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. The department consists of three program areas: Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics.

  • Computer Science: The department offers an undergraduate degree in Computer Science where students gain problem-solving, critical thinking, and complex analytical skills to compete in the workforce.
  • Mathematics: The department offers a traditional mathematics degree with emphases in Actuarial Science, Teaching 5-8, and Teaching 6-12. A graduate degree and certificate are also available in mathematics.
  • Physics: The department offers undergraduate degrees with seven emphases and a five-year, accelerated program leading to a Master of Science degree. The department also works with the chemistry and engineering technology departments to offer a Master of Science Degree in Materials Science.

Mathematics Placement Scheme

Download the Mathematics Placement Scheme. Find the student's Mathematics ACT and go down that column until you arrive at the row which best describes the student's high school mathematics background. The mathematics courses which would be appropriate for your student are listed by number in that cell. If a student did well in high school mathematics courses, then you might choose the higher numbered courses, otherwise it would be wise to choose the lower numbered courses.

Math Tutors Group
