“Water and air are essential. Clean water and air, as well as the systems that deliver them, are undeniable necessities and conveniences within our lives. Conceptually, my work focuses on water and air distribution systems, both real and imaginary, and the ingenuity and materials needed to design and maintain them.
By combining seemingly contradictory and disparate materials such as handmade fired ceramics, air filters, found industrial objects, and steel pipes, I present whimsical systems intended to ease the viewer into underlying ideas about progress, change, time, and decay.”-Matt Moyer

February 27 - April 26, 2018
Eric Kunsman, Thou Art..., Will Give...
Exhibition: February 27 - April 26, 2018
Lecture: April 5, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Reception: April 5, 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
In Thou Art ... , Will Give ... , Eric hopes to offer some of the atmosphere experienced by prisoners when the Penitentiary was active. This exhibition attempts to capture some of the story, energy, and the sorrows of this remarkable space. Actual photographs of entries from the Warden’s 1800s logbooks have been blended with his photographs of the Penitentiary, to give a historical sense of both the prisoners and their treatment at the Penitentiary. Eric is hoping that through these images and text, visitors can share some of the sense of loneliness, hopelessness, and desperate search for redemption that drove so many of those spirits still trapped within the walls of Eastern State.
