Academic Advising Guide

Kelce College of  Business Steps to Academic Advising

The College of Business (COB) Steps to Academic Advising  was created to assist COB students as they go through their college career and business studies.  The information in this guide will help students understand the role of the College of Business Academic Advising Center and the faculty advisors.

It is important to be an informed and active student by meeting regularly with your advisor based on the following guidelines:

Academic Advising for College of Business majors that have not been officially accepted into the College of Business

All students who have chosen a business major, but have not met the requirements to be officially admitted into the College of Business, are required to meet with the Kelce Advising Center advisor or a peer advisor at least one time per semester.  Prior to the pre-registration period each semester, students must take the following steps:

  • Schedule an appointment with the advising center by visiting Kelce 102 or calling (620) 235-4599.
  • Prepare for the appointment by reviewing the Schedule of Classes and your Degree Audit located in GUS. 
  • Create a list of classes for the upcoming semester. 
  • Meet with the advising center at your designated time or call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel.
  • Be prepared with any questions you may have regarding your course schedule or academic plan. 
  • At the end of the advising session, you will receive your advisement code, online registration date, and any further instructions for online registration.   
  • Any sophomore with a 3.5 g.p.a. or higher may submit their proposed schedule of classes through shurt@pittstate.edu and receive online advisement. 

Please note, additional appointments may be necessary for discussion regarding your major, career plans, or other topics related to your degree.

Academic Advising for College of Business majors who have been admitted to the College of Business

After you have been officially admitted to the College of Business you will receive a letter of admission from the Kelce Advising Center.  Within your admission letter, you will be provided the name and location of your new faculty advisor.  All COB majors are required to meet with their faculty advisor at least one time per semester.  Prior to the pre-registration period each semester, students must take the following steps:

  • Schedule an appointment with your faculty advisor.
  • Prepare for the appointment by reviewing the Schedule of Classes and your Degree Audit located in GUS. 
  • Create a list of classes for the upcoming semester. 
  • Meet with your faculty advisor at your designated time or call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel.
  • Be prepared with any questions you may have regarding your course schedule or academic plan. 
  • At the end of the advising session, you will receive your advisement code, online registration date, and any further instructions for online registration.

Academic Planning

Students should use the online Degree Audit to select classes and monitor their degree progress. The Degree Audit is located within your GUS account and provides a complete list of all courses required to complete your declared major.
