"Bird Species: Who decides and how?", by PSU's  Dr. Neil Snow, Botanist,  Assistant Professor of Biology, Director of the Sperry Herbarium.

Birders know that biologists lump and split species. But why does this occur? What data sources are used, and who decides? Finally, should we anticipate more or less splitting of bird species in the future? Dr. Neil Snow, a botanist and evolutionary biologist at Pittsburg State University, has described many dozens of new plant species. He will provide a general overview of the reasons behind splitting and lumping, and suggest what the future may hold for the number of bird species.
