Three students from the Pittsburg State University Art Department, Jenna Spencer, Liz Pace, and Catherine Jepson, will exhibit their sculptures, printmaking, and paper art in the Second Floor Gallery of Porter Hall from January 20th through the 30th, 2014. There will be a reception to meet the artists on January 23rd from 5pm to 8pm.
The group of art works in this exhibit consists of three separate independent studies courses. All of which were completed in the fall of 2013 by these three individuals who were united with the same advisor. Meetings throughout the semester were held to converse, critique, problem solve, observe, and encourage. Each artist was an independent within their medium and study, yet all were unified by each other’s journey of creation and discovery.
Inspired by the presence of nature and dance in her life, Jenna Spencer created a life size sculpture series of dancers made of fallen branches, vines, and buried roots. Through mastering the art of chicken wire, Liz Pace formed a series of sculptures based upon ideas related to the human form and sensory perception. Exploring and experimenting led Catherine Jepson to relate her printmaking and book concepts to personal and abstract depths.
The three will hold a reception on Tuesday, January 23 from 5-8pm in the Second Floor Gallery, located on the second floor of Porter Hall.
